We made it! After a 24+ hour journey of planes, booze and one soaking wet crotch we made it to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia on Borneo islamd – the start of our adventure!
We met the group, got dinner and had a UK priced (most disappointing) beer before getting an early night.

The next day we started our volunteering in the local area of Kota Kinabalu for a PACOS Trust at their Kivatu Nature Farm. This is a NGO which teaches communities about eco agriculture for them to then use in their communities. They are trying to do some neat things to encourage sustainable living and we liked the way they taught communities to upcycle old plastic bottles and turn old tyres into plant pots.
We spent the day laying concrete foundations, literally shifting through and shovelling sh!t to box up for selling and bottling molasses (a by-product of refining sugarcane used to help compost).
There was also a group of local lads who help out the NGO as part of their school course. It was nice to spend time joking around with them and they were just typical 18 year olds – love Snoop Dogg, talked about girls, went on about boozing, sat about lazily smoking and kept getting me to say rude words in Malay. LADS!

After a sweaty working day we headed to the night food market. Amazing place. Lots of street food stalls serving amazing fresh cook BBQ and Asian food – delish!
Next we head to the camp within a community and start the proper volunteering work – can’t wait. See you in a couple of weeks!
